Dr. James Dewar
MD, FAAP
Dr. Dewar was born in Yakima, Washington, but has proudly called South Carolina home since the seventh grade—and has been a devoted Gamecock ever since. From Irmo High School to the University of South Carolina for both his undergraduate education and medical degree, his roots in the Midlands run deep.
After completing his residency at Palmetto Richland Children’s Hospital and spending time practicing in Flagstaff, Arizona, Dr. Dewar returned home to join Palmetto Pediatrics in 2003. Since then, he has remained dedicated to caring for the children and families of his community.
Dr. Dewar believes strong physician-patient relationships begin with meaningful conversation. He takes the time to ensure both parents and patients feel heard, understood, and confident in their care. Whether addressing a puzzling rash, a lingering fever, or a routine wellness visit, he is committed to providing thoughtful answers and ensuring every question is addressed.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Dewar and his wife, Melanie, are proud parents of four children—one son and three daughters. He enjoys attending church, cheering on two of his daughters at volleyball games, and watching his youngest daughter sing and play guitar in musical performances. He is also proud to see his oldest son continue the family tradition of attending the University of South Carolina.
A dedicated LEGO enthusiast, Dr. Dewar is always adding a new creation to his display at the Lexington office. He and his family also enjoy hiking and exploring trails throughout South Carolina.
